T&T’s Under-15s fall to Leewards in thriller
T&T U-15s slipped from 94 for three to 127 all out to lose their final match of the West Indies Regional U-15 tournament at Melbourne in Jamaica yesterday.
After their bowlers had done another wonderful job in restricting the opposition to 132 all out, the batsmen again failed to show up and T&T lost seven wickets for 33 runs towards the end of their innings.
The slide started with the fall of batting mainstay Rajeev Ramnath who looked good in compiling 33 runs. After the early loss of openers Andrew Rambaran, Kyle Kissoondath and Justin Jaggessar, T&T recovered nicely through Ramnath and Nick Ramlal, who added 53 runs for the fourth wicket. However, the advent of spinner Randolph Seegolam changed the course of the match and T&T panicked towards the end and lost the match.
Earlier, Leewards won the toss and decided to take first strike. They lost a wicket very early as pacer Liam Mamchan gota customary early breakthrough shattering the stumps of Michael Greaves with the score on eight. Mamchan and fellow fast bowler Ricardo Chase kept the Leewards on the backfoot as they held tight reign over proceedings. At the end of their 12 overs, the score stood at 28/1.
After both were removed the Leewards went after Sachin Emrit and Nickyle Jalim but skipper Ramnath called on the inform spin duo of Avaon Changoor and Ronnilstar ‘Lall’ Perreira. They removed the threatening Carlton Tuckett for 31 and Hilroy Andrew 24.
The T&T boys held sway from that point and left arm spinner Andrew Rambaran came after Changoor and Perreira to rip away the lower order, finishing with three wickets for just seven runs. Changoor finished with 1/12 off 9.3 overs, while Perreira took 2/18.
T&T finished their campaign in fifth spot winning two matches and losing three.
