West Indies all rounder Jason Holder says that the absence of the veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul did not change the dynamics of the West Indies team yesterday.

Holder was speaking at the close of the opening day’s play of the 2015 West Indies versus Australia Test series at Windsor Park in Dominica. West Indies winning the toss and batting first, made 148 all out, to which Australia replied with 85 for three.

Chanderpaul was left out of this series and coming in to replace him was Barbadian Shane Dowrich, who scored 15 on Test debut. According to Holder :”I don’t think that the dynamics of the team changed much without Shiv. We all know that Shiv has had a very good career but it is beyond me to question and answer why he was left out and I can’t comment on that at the moment. What I can say is that we have a young team and I am backing them 100 percent to come out and do well for West Indies in this series.”

Looking back at the day’s play the Barbadian said :”It is important that we start well tomorrow morning. It is not an easy scoring ground, you have to graft for runs, so we are in it still.  It is not a huge scoring pitch batsmen have to work hard to get in and as the ball gets softer scoring will be difficult.

“The three wicket set them back a bit yesterday afternoon and it is crucial to hit the ground running in the morning, show that enthusiasm very early and get wickets.”

Meanwhile, Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood who captured 3/33 to break the back of the West Indies batting said that 300 is the par score on this pitch. “Looking at the pitch 300 runs is the par score, so we will be aiming in that region. In fact the plan is to bat as long as possible and we hope to do that tomorrow. It is not easy to get runs there and they have bowled in good areas but we back ourselves to go out there and put up a good score.”
