Best yet to come

The Jeffrey Ross Racing Special

Best Of Times is a 33/1 chance for the Epsom Derby next month, suppose those odds will contract if this Godolphin-owned Dubawi colt completes a four-timer on ‘good’ ground at Goodwood this afternoon.

Rated 105 and progressing with experience, Best Of Times is just the type to figure in the famous scrum; he seems to do ‘just enough’ under James Doyle whose riding this season smacks of a jockey possessing tremendous confidence; being contracted to ‘the boys in blue’ has been a real boost, there again Khaled Abdulla retained him and he never employs anyone less than top grade.

Saeed bin Suroor’s charge faces six rivals in the listed, £40000, Cocked Hat Stakes over eleven furlongs (formerly the ‘Predominate) and is no cert by any means with Ed Dunlop-trained Prince Gagarin certain to be ‘on the premises’ under Ryan Moore; in summary however I’m convinced the ‘Best’ is yet to come!

Running tandem will two other seven-race programmes at Bath and Haydock where Tom Dascombe-trained Neutron Bomb is strongly-fancied to make it third time lucky in the Maiden Stakes over a mile of a ‘good to soft’ left-handed circuit. Neutron Bomb was heavily-backed into favouritism at Chester earlier this month, when ground conditions became extremely testing following heavy rain(s), and this Irish-bred filly should be judged on her length second to Postbag at Leicester on debut.

Erik The Red can’t be discounted and there are other well-bred sorts on show but Neutron Bomb ‘ticks’ enough boxes! Sir Michael Stoute journeys Rib Reserve to ‘good to firm’ Bath for the Maiden Stakes over ten furlongs; take the hint!

11.15 Rib Reserve
12.00 Best Of Times
12.50 Neutron Bomb
