FORMER T&T and West Indies wicketkeeper Deryck Murray has lauded the South Zonal and District Council of the T&T Cricket Board for the professional and efficient manner in carrying out its function during the past season.

The president of the T&TCB made these remarks during his address at the zone’s annual presentation function which took place last Saturday at the PowerGen Sports Club, Syne Village in Penal.

Murray urged the officials and players to work together in assisting the sport to reach at the top of the ladder in the region once more.

He said that the decline of West Indies cricket started in 1985 because systems were not put in place for the further development of the players.

“The T&T Cricket Board is putting systems in place to keep our cricket at the top by spreading the game to all parts of T&T. In order to keep our game at the top, players must be discipline and this discipline will hopefully transcend in West Indies cricket,” Murray stated.

He added that the T&TCB will do all in it’s power to assist West Indies cricket to regain it’s place at the top of international cricket.

Allrounder Paul Wintz of Woodland Sports Club copped the prestigious Cricketer of the Year award. Wintz scored 433 runs and captured 36 wickets.

AM Marketing Woodland Sports Club winners of Division 1A title was promoted to the Southern Super League.

Several top sporting officials attended the gala function including former West Indies youth captain Colin Murray and the second vice-president of the T&TCB, Azim Bassarath.
