Kirani inspiration for youths—Grenada PM

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Prime Minister of Grenada Tillman Thomas has expressed happiness with the inspiration Kirani James has provided to the young men and women of the island. James brought home Grenada's first Olympic gold medal on Monday when he won the men’s 400-metre event at the London Games in a time of 43.94 seconds.

In a telephone interview with the T&T Guardian yesterday, Tillman spoke of his joy for James and described the young man’s performance as "a very historic occasion." Thomas said the victory was even more of an accomplishment because James stayed focused throughout his training and, "now he has seen the reward."

He said James’ courage and perseverance were a testament to young people everywhere. He said there was a celebration yesterday in James' home village of Gouyave and Grenadians had been granted a half-day holiday to share in the festivities, which would feature Government officials, musicians and artistes.
