Police killed a robber and critically injured another during a shootout in Mafeking Village, Mayaro, on Friday night. Reports are that retired regional corporation worker Harold Marcano, 68, was robbed and tied up at his home in Agostini Village, Rio Claro. Two robbers entered Marcano’s home where they beat, robbed and tied him up. They then made off with Marcano’s B14 car.

Officers of the Mayaro Police Station got a tip off and set up a road block. At around 7.30 pm, the police intercepted the vehicle at the Mafeking Junction and gunfire was exchanged; one robber was killed and the other was critically wounded. The man who died in the shootout was identified as Kevon Charles, of George Village, Tableland. His accomplice is said to be in critical condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital.
