Police probe Mayaro shooting and poisoning

Police are investigating the circumtances in which a Mayaro man was found at his home with fatal gun shot wounds to the chest yesterday a short time after a female relative was reportedly forced to drink a poisonous substance. Steve Bain, 44, an offshore technician of Otoire Village, Mayaro, was found with gun shot wounds to his chest at around 8 am. He was later pronounced dead the Sangre Grande District Hospital. 



Police said he had earlier forced the female relative, 36,to drink a poisonous substance. The woman was taken to the  Sangre Grande Hospital where she was warded in a  critical condition in a critical condition up to late yesterday. Bain, a father of two, told his step daughter that he had given the female relative a poisonous substance. The step-daughter alerted her grandmother who rushed the woman to the Mayaro District Hospital. She was later transferred to the Sangre Grande Hospital. 


Bain was found by his brother, Rodney, who went to his home to check on him. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead at around 11.40 am. PC Ramkissoon, ASP Ramkhelewan, Sgt Nikki  Williams and WPC Champ Sookoo of the Mayaro Police visited the scene and are investigating. Friends of Bain and the woman yesterday expressed shock at the incident. They said the two were last seen in good spirits on Saturday night liming at the Mayaro Junction.
