Sanelle’s back on soca circuit

Thursday, July 14, 2016
After a few years off the music circuit, Sanelle Dempster is back with a bang.

One of soca’s best-loved songbirds is set to reclaim her space on the road. After a few years off the music circuit, front liner and former Road March queen Sanelle Dempster is back with a bang.

Few can forget how Dempster took early command of the party circuit, sending fete lovers and masqueraders wild with her massive 1999 hit, The River. Her coveted Road March win that year propelled her into Carnival history records as only the second female to have accomplished such a feat—Calypso Rose being the first.

Now, after an extended hiatus, Dempster returns to the arena with her trademark charm, confidence and charisma, ready to get the fetes pumping again, a release said.

The singer, who hails from Chaguanas, took time off from performing to make sure that her son was well cared for while he pursued his studies in the US on an athletic scholarship. Now that he has graduated and is all grown up, the soca diva is gearing up to take to the stage once more, in fine style.

Providing accompaniment alongside Dempster is Trinbago’s newest brass band, B2W, also known as Brass To The World. With a formidable mix of youth and experience, B2W is hard at work in their St Joseph band room, concocting just the right formula to recreate the sheer magic of dance music in the festival.

Bandleader and brain behind the new outfit, Burt Marcellin, wants to assure music lovers that B2W will be generous in serving up sweet offerings to people who go to parties to do more than just “gape,” but instead go to dance and revel in the music.

Aiming to retain year-round appeal for their versatility, the band is currently drilling a range of contemporary selections from soca to reggae, soca chutney, R&B and Latin, to name a few.

B2W is also mere steps away from securing an alliance with an impressive mas’ band to bring pure “vibes” on the road for Carnival 2017 and beyond.

According to Marcellin, B2W’s focus is on giving full support to the front line, led by Dempster, currently in studio putting the finishing touches on a hot new groove in time for an August release.

Joining her in the B2W frontline are Heaven “Snakey” Charles (popular for his 2014 hit, The Dhoti Song) and new-comer Edwin “EJ” Granger.

Together they plan to bring back that special sweetness into the music of Carnival … and from the sound of the horns, they’re going to do exceptionally well.

B2W, featuring Sanelle Dempster, Snakey and EJ, launches on July 17 at RuStreet Night Club, corner Gray and Rust Streets, St Clair from 6 pm to 10 pm. Entry is by invitation only. Interested parties can call 782-3462.
